The Pets of the Instincts Series

Hey, everyone! If you've read my vampire novels in the Instincts Series, which is only two books at the moment, NATURAL INSTINCTS and ENDURING INSTINCTS, you know there are a few secondary characters who are very important to the main ones; the pets! I'm talking about Bull the English Mastiff, Kuma the Akita Inu, Lynx and Hemingway the Maine Coon cats, and of course, Dakarai the African Lion.

For the past few months, I've been writing the first draft of the 3rd Instincts novel. And I'm nearly done! Woo hoo! It'll still be a few months before it's released....since I have to obsessively polish it before turning it in, then it'll have to go through editing, but it's nice to almost have the first solid draft complete. As I draw closer to the The End, I thought it'd be fun to post pics of a few critters who look similar to our furry heroes in the books. I should probably say, though, in a way this post could be considered a slight spoiler, since Kuma doesn't appear until ENDURING INSTINCTS, but I guess it's also not that big of a spoiler seeing pics of one of the characters :-) Hope you guys enjoy getting this look this look at them!

Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays!

It's been a long time since I've posted some music here, so I thought I would share one by a favorite artist of mine, Josh Groban, who did this song, "Believe", for one of my favorite Christmas movies, The Polar Express. To my ears, Josh is one of the most beautifully gifted singers I've ever heard and I've been a fan of his since his first album. And as I'm sure many of you know, The Polar Express was originally a children's book by Chris Van Allsburg. And yeah, that's a favorite children's book of mine, too. I've got all sorts of favorites going on in this post ;-) I think the movie did a wonderful job in capturing the magic of the book, and Josh did the same with his voice in this song.

And so, my dears, from me to you, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. You've all given me so much throughout the year with your friendship, your kindness, and your support, and I thank you so much. I wish you all happiness, peace, and love.

Weekly Inspiration - Holiday Edition 2011

Happy Holidays, ladies and gentlemen! Since Christmas is fast approaching...a little too fast for those of us who haven't finished their shopping yet...I thought it's time to bust out some merry inspiration. Some of these pics I posted last year, but hey, nothing wrong with checking them out again, right? With most of these, I sadly don't know who the models are, but there are a couple past favorites such as Edilson Nascimento and James Ellis. Hope everyone is having a happy holiday!

Upcoming Release: Beautiful Harmony

Hello, ladies and gentlemen! Just a reminder, you still have time to enter in the Stuff Your Stockings Blog Hop Giveaway going on. If you'd like to enter for a chance to win one of my books, just leave a comment on the Giveaway post right below this one. I'll be announcing my winner tomorrow, December 19th, along with some more news ;-)

And now, on to my upcoming release! You may recall a while back I posted an update on what was going on in my writing world, and in that post I mentioned the short story, "Beautiful Harmony." Well, the release day is fast approaching!  It's set to go live at MLR Press on December 25th! Woo hoo! Since the release is getting closer, I thought I'd share some more information about it, including the blurb and an excerpt.  The cover for it is the standard MLR Press cover for all their holiday releases, so the guys on it aren't meant to be Ky and Robbie, but I think it's still a very sweet and pretty cover.

This short story is about 10k words, and timeline wise in the Conquest series, it takes place after BLACK HEART DOWN, so I guess you could say it's Conquest 5.5, since it's not a full length novel or novella. I really loved working with Ky and Robbie again, and this story will show everyone where they are and where they're going in their lives and relationship. I hope everyone will enjoy getting to visit with them again this holiday!

Blurb:
Featuring Kyler Christenson and Robbie Russo from the novel, BLACK HEART DOWN.

Ever since rock stars, Kyler Christenson and Robbie Russo, pledged their commitment, they've lived only for each other, and it's been a life of happiness every day. When Robbie wakes on Christmas morning to a special message in the snow and Kyler standing in the early sunlight, he races outside to be with him.

Though he and Robbie have faced challenges in their past, Kyler knows what he wants for their future. As Robbie stands before him, Kyler presents him with a gift that will change both their lives to one of beautiful harmony.

Excerpt:

Thump

Robbie shifted in bed, groaning in displeasure as sleep started to slip away from him.

Thump

A low growl rumbled in his throat. What the hell was that noise?

Thump

Damn it.  Maybe he could get Ky to check it out. He rolled over, sliding an arm across the bed to where Kyler was. Or, where Ky should be. His hand found nothing but an empty bed and cool sheets.

Thump

Robbie flung off the blankets. He’d go check and find Ky. It sounded like the noise was outside one of the bedroom windows. Actually, it sounded like it was hitting the window.

He walked around the foot of the bed toward the large windows that overlooked the backyard, the warmth from bed floating off his nude body with every step he took. He’d been hoping for a bit more romantic of a wake-up for his and Ky’s first Christmas morning in their new home. He just hoped there wasn’t something wrong with the mansion, like a gutter knocked loose from all the snow, or the roof getting ready to cave in.

Robbie reached the window and pulled the curtain aside, startling back as snow splattered across the glass on the outside.  He stared at the spot in confusion…and all the other spots on the window showing it’d been getting hit for a while. He looked beyond to the yard, letting out a shocked cough, followed instantly by laughter.

Kyler stood below the window, a snowball in hand, proving himself to be the culprit in waking Robbie.  He wore a puffy black coat and black gloves, but no hat, which didn’t surprised Robbie since in all their eleven years together, he’d never seen him wear a hat since Ky didn’t like his hair getting messed up.  Even from a distance, he could see Kyler’s cheeks were flushed with the cold. With the faint morning sunlight touching him, Ky’s golden blond hair shined. Robbie stored the image of him in his mind, wanting to cherish forever how beautiful Kyler looked at that moment.

Kyler snapped one arm up, waving to him.  Robbie’s smile grew larger, and he waved back.  Ky looked so happy.  He saw in him again the seventeen year-old boy he’d fallen in love with when they were both in high school.  Over the years, their relationship had been more than a little rocky.  On again, off again. Running away from each other only to turn around and run right back.

Through it all, he knew the young man he’d fallen in love with continued to exist within Kyler.  He saw him in Ky so many times over the years, but in the few months since they’d committed fully to each other, Ky had become who he was always meant to be.  He was still the same fearless and bold frontman of their band, but now the confidence Ky put out was real and true, because he had finally learned to accept himself.  Kyler doing that accelerated their relationship to the level he always dreamed to have with him.

He knew their past problems weren’t all Ky’s fault.  He was an equal partner in the hurt.  With the success and fame of their music careers with Black Heart Down, they both had lost their ways and made mistakes.  The important thing was, they’d both also let the past go.  They still held onto the good parts of it, and really, there were so many more of those and they were so much stronger than anything else.

He had a feeling, though, this memory they were creating now would be one of the best for all their lives.

Kyler stopped waving and gestured behind him with flourish.

Robbie looked beyond Kyler and somehow his smile managed to grow even more.  Spelled out in the snow with large letters were the words, I Love You.  Each letter was connected to the next, as if Kyler had shuffled through the snow to create the message.  Behind the message were two lopsided snow men, one with a wireless mic on a stand in front of him, and the other had one of Kyler’s old guitars that he never played anymore hanging from a strap around the second large snowball that made up the torso.

Robbie burst out laughing at the frozen versions of themselves, but also emotion welled inside him at Kyler’s efforts to make the first Christmas morning in their home special.

Special Guest: Amber Kell

Woo hoo!  I'm very pleased to welcome here a special guest and super talented author, Amber Kell!  All this month, Amber has been celebrating her November Birthday Extravaganza by stopping by authors' blogs and sharing part of an ongoing story, and I couldn't be more thrilled to have her fantastic work appear on my blog!  For the full details of her Extravaganza, please check out Amber's blog HERE.

Welcome and happy birthday, Amber!  It's such a pleasure to have you here!

Stanley followed Fenris home. His place still stank and the idea of a bed with Fenris in it, definitely a worthy lure. It turned out that Fenris’ family actually owned the building and the others lived there as part of a pack agreement.

“Though if you don’t want them there we can kick them out. It should be the alpha’s home now,” Fenris said with an earnest expression.

Stanley didn’t feel completely comfortable throwing people out of their home. “I don’t want to toss them out. I mean how long have they lived with you?”

“Too long.” Fenris rolled his eyes. “But Sandy is a kick ass cook and even though Paul is a bit of a tool, he knows his stuff about security.”

“Well as it’s your house and I’m your mate do you want them out of there?”

Fenris shrugged. “Packs usually live in groups but it isn’t that large of a place. How about we look around for other lodgings everyone can move into. Our last Alpha liked his privacy, which probably should’ve sent warning bells to everyone. I’m sure we can find a nice building to purchase.”

“Is it just us? I mean the four of us?” Stanley didn’t know why four people needed an entire building but then he didn’t know much about pack politics.

Laughing Fenris opened the door to his apartment. “No, there are twenty of us. We thought it best to wait a bit before introducing the others. You were a little overwhelmed with meeting the three of us.”

“Twenty? I’m responsible for twenty people.” Stanley couldn’t even take care of a goldfish as proven by the demise of goldy one through thirty. How could he possibly oversee the care and protection of twenty people?

Fenris kissed him on the cheek. “You don’t have to watch over us. Well, except me. They all have jobs and some even have families of their own. Your job is to look strong and studly.”

“And kick the ass of any alpha who threatens us,” Paul interjected.

Sandy nodded from her spot, curled up on a loveseat with a gossip magazine. “Defending the territory, acting as an advisor and watching out for our finances are all alpha tasks.”

“And you already punched Sebastian so you have one job down,” Fenris offered.

Sandy dropped her magazine. “You punched Sebastian? What did he do?”

“He bled on the floor,” Fenris announced with glee.

Sandy and Paul stared at him at him intently as if he’d grown another head. The look became so prolonged he almost checked to see if he had. “He peed on my stuff!” Stanley protested.

Paul laughed. “Trying to bring you to heel was he?”

“Apparently my father promised me to him.”

Sandy nibbled her lower lip. “He might try to retaliate. It’s best we get the pack moved into a secure building. The better to shore up our defenses.”

“You’ll have to quit your job,” Paul told him.

“What? Why?” Stanley asked.

“Dude, you’ve got a family to take care of. What is Fenris going to do with his pretty self all day while you’re crunching numbers?”

Good thing Paul had fast reflexes. Stanley didn’t even see the book before Paul ducked to the side to avoid it impacting with his skull.

Fenris turned to him. “He’s right, Stanley, I hope you weren’t in love with your job. Most alphas can’t keep up with their responsibilities and a regular job too. Being an alpha is a full time occupation.”

Stanley thought of his little office with its dying ficus and buzzing lights. “I really like my job but I don’t mind leaving the company. It sounds like I’ll still be doing accounting, except for the pack instead of a company.”

“That’s the spirit,” Paul said. “Just think of it as a really physical accounting job where you might need to shift into a wolf and battle to the death.” He turned to Sandy. “I give him a month.”

A loud thud echoed in the air as Paul tumbled to the floor.

Stanley turned a shocked gaze to his mate.

Fenris shrugged. “I guess he forgot to duck.”

NATURAL INSTINCTS Nominated for Best Book 2011!

Hey again, everyone!  I know I just posted an update on my writing and reviews, but I wanted to do a seperate post for this because I'm beyond excited about it.  I got word that my first vampire novel, NATURAL INSTINCTS, has been nominated at The Romance Reviews for Best GLBT Paranormal - Vampire book of 2011!  Woo hoo!

This is such an honor and I couldn't be happier!  Now that it's been nominated, people can vote for it to win.  If you'd like to vote, here's the link: http://www.theromancereviews.com/bookvote.php. You have to scroll down to the GLBT Vampire category to find it, but it's going up against some wonderful authors, so please, vote for the book you truly enjoyed most.  I'm just thrilled to have been nominated!  Also, there are so many incredible authors and books in these awards, I'm sure you can find lots of your favorite stories and authors, and probably even some new ones for your TBR!

New Reviews and a Writing Update

Hey, everyone!  I know I've been very absent lately...yes, and I know this has been a trend. Funny thing is, just this week, I reduced my hours the EDJ (Evil Day Job, yeah, I work outside the home in addition to writing), and even though I didn't drop my hours down by much, one would think this should mean I'd have more time for being online and writing.  But that hasn't been the case.  I've used the extra time to be with my child, my horses and other pets, and trying to keep up with the things that need done around my house.

But you guys don't want to be bored with the mundane details of my life.  I was just trying to make excuses for not being around ;-)  So on to the good stuff!  We'll start off with the reviews.  I'm very happy to say that ENDURING INSTINCTS and BLACK HEART DOWN have both gotten great reviews lately.  Yay!  There are a few from different review sites, so I'll post the links for anyone who'd like to check them out.

http://www.darkdivasreviews.com/?p=6688 - 4.5 out of 5 for ENDURING INSTINCTS.  Thank you, Lasha!

http://literarynymphsreviewsonly.blogspot.com/2011/10/enduring-instincts.html?zx=1d234d54253a669e - 5 out of 5 for ENDURING INSTINCTS.  Thank you, Chocolate Minx!

http://www.reviewsbyjessewave.com/2011/11/11/enduring-instincts/ 4 out of 5 for ENDURING INSTINCTS.  Thank you, Raine!

http://glbt.theromancereviews.com/viewbooksreview.php?bookid=3791 5 out of 5 for BLACK HEART DOWN.  Thank you, DH! (By the way, guys, DH Starr is an amazing author himself!)

Hooray!  Just posting those made me happy all over again!  And now, on to writing news!

So, I'll start first with what my next release is going to be, and that is a short story titled BEAUTIFUL HARMONY.  My publisher, MLR Press, is going to be holding a holiday event where starting in November, they're going to release a short story each day all through the holidays and going into the New Year. When I heard about it, I was pondering on writing something for it, and then two of my guys from one of my previous novels rushed forward with wanting to continue their story.  And who were these two, you ask?  Why, none other than Kyler Christenson and Robbie Russo from BLACK HEART DOWN. And so, they will be starring in BEAUTIFUL HARMONY, a 10k word short story that will release December 25th.

For my next novel release and when that will be, well, to be honest, I'm not sure.  I've been thinking it would be the next musician themed story, HEARTSTRINGS, featuring my classical violinist and kilt wearing rockers.  But then I was thinking possibly the third vampire story, of which I'm in the process of writing now.  So I'm a little torn between the two, though I'm still slightly leaning toward HEARTSTRINGS, followed by Instincts Series #3. Those two will be 2012 releases.  For what will come after them...again I'm not sure, but I'm thinking it may be Conquest's Brad Delfini's story.

And that's currently what's been going on in my world.  I do apologize for not having definites on future novels, but I wanted to try to give as much of an update as I could to what I've been working on, and let you guys know I haven't fallen off the face of the earth :-)

Thank you, so very much, everyone, for your patience with me not being around as much and for all your support.  I couldn't be an author without all of you!

Happy Birthday, Jesse!

For those who visit this site regularly, you know Fridays are usually my Song of the Week day...um....when I actually get around to posting a Song of the Week, that is.  But we'll just bypass that I've been a bit remiss in that area lately.  Well, this week I'm posting a song, and for someone very special to me, Jesse Alexander.

If you've read the Conquest books, you know who Jesse is, the lead singer of the band Conquest and married to superstar singer, Evan Arden.  As stated in the stories, today, October 7th, is Jesse's birthday.  In my writing life thus far, I've worked with many guys, but Jesse is the most special to me.  He came to me stronger than anyone ever had and he stays close to me even now.  He drove me to become a  published author, and I continue to give him credit for it happening.  For that, I'll always be grateful to him.

So on his birthday, here is a song for him and Evan, Pachelbel's Canon in D, their song.  I'm sure Evan will be busting out his Stradivarius tonight for Jesse to play for him like he did that very first time :-)

Jesse, Evan, I know you guys have a special and fun day planned that will go on well into the night, but I just want to say to you, Jesse, happy birthday.  Thank you for all you've given me.

And of course, I claim no ownership rights to this song, the music, the image, video, or Pachelbel.  All belongs to the rightful copyright holders.  I do, however, claim ownership of Jesse and Evan :-)

Just a couple days ago, I mentioned that this one could possibly be releasing today, and here it is!  I had a blast working on this story and spending more time with my vampires, especially giving Daniel and Ryunosuke a chance to come into their own.

I hope very much everyone who reads it will enjoy it, and my appreciation goes out to all of you who do decide to give it a read!  And now, I'm off to happy dance!

New Release News: ENDURING INSTINCTS

Ladies and gentlemen, it is my pleasure to announce the upcoming release of my next novel, ENDURING INSTINCTS.  This is my second vampire story, the follow-up to NATURAL INSTINCTS and Book 2 in the Instincts Series.  As of right now, it's looking good that it'll release this Friday, September 30th, at MLR Press.  Barring any unforeseen circumstances, that is.  Within a couple weeks after it goes live on the MLR site, it'll branch out to Amazon.com, and later to other book vendors and will also be available in print.

Hope everyone who decides to pick it up will enjoy it!

BLURB:
Vampire Daniel Valente struggles to live on his own, now that his master, Titus Antonius Calidus, has found eternal love with another.  Carrying mental and emotional scars, he lives in loneliness and feels as though he's lost who he once was.

Ryunosuke Kimura has known Daniel for hundreds of years, and loved him for many of them.  Even though he believes Titus is the only one Daniel wants to give his heart to, when he hears Daniel needs his support, he rushes to be with him.

With Ryu at his side, Daniel's confidence returns, and with it, he sees the enduring love Ryu has always had for him.  As they grow closer, new threats from old enemies arise, and if Daniel and Ryunosuke are to spend eternity together, they must first defeat the past.

Weekly Inspiration - Edilson Nascimento...again

Hey, everyone!  Man, it's been so long since I've posted any Weekly Inspiration!  I apologize for that.  I've been crazy busy lately between my child, my evil day job, writing, my horses....yeah, the list goes on :-)  But since it's been a while, I thought I'd post one of my favorite models again, Edilson Nascimento.  He's a Brazilian model, and yeah, I've posted shots of him here before so he might be familiar to some of you.  The last I heard, he was taking a break from modeling for a couple years to spend time with his baby, but I could be wrong on that.  Either way, there are still plenty of pics of him around for everyone to still enjoy.  I never have been able to track down what seemed like an official website, Twitter, or Facebook for him, but if you do a search with his name, you'll get to see a whole lot more of him.  And now, enjoy!
